Bill Prost
Sr. Vice Commander - Army

Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1989 as an Engineer Officer. He was stationed at Ft Leonard Wood, Ft Bragg, Vietnam with the 36th Engineer Battalion-Construction, 2 tours in Germany, and taught ROTC at the University of Notre Dame. While stationed at the Army Operational Test and Evaluation Agency, he evaluated the Pre-Procurement testing programs on the HMMWV, the "NAVSTAR" (now known as GPS), plus the Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW).
During his final tour in Germany, he was a Staff Officer at USAREUR & 7th Army with the Deputy Chief of Staff Engineer office and then for Resource Management, plus was a Liaison Officer to NATO's Engineer Staff during CENTAG military exercises.
 
Upon retirement, he worked for 7 years at the KC VA hospital in Plant Ops & Construction Projects, the for 8 years at Truman Medical Center as Safety Officer, and finally as an Engineer Military Analyst for Northrup Grumman with MTCP at Ft Leavenworth, KS for about 12 years.
 
Bill's military awards include the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Ribbon, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Presidential Unit Citation, Parachute Badge and German Jump Wings. His education includes 4 years of Engineering Undergraduate Studies at Southern Illinois University, a Masters of Engineering from Boston University, Command and General Staff College, Certified Plant Engineer, Certified Hospital Safety Officer and Operations Research and Systems Analysis-Military Application Course I.
 
He joined VFW Post 4055 in 1993 and then served 4 years as Commander, many years as Trustee and Senior Vice Commander, plus the Honor Guard Coordinator.
 
He was elected in April 2024 as the VFW District 3 Commander.
 
He is married to his wife Edie, who is active in the VFW Auxiliary at the District level and often serves as the Post Photographer. They have 4 children (2 sons have served their country on military deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan) plus the have 8 grandchildren.
